Days 1-2: New Opportunity

Back from the vacation, and perfectly strict since.

Meat, fruit, veggies, nuts & seeds. Nothing but. I can't afford to mess up again.

Lots of steak over the last couple of days. I love it. Feels good to get mounds of protein and no crap food once again.

I've screwed up over and over and over. This is a challenge for me, I won't lie. I WILL NOT FUCK UP THIS TIME.

Onward and upward.

The Vacation - Dietaty Debauchery

Well, the vacation to Newfoundland went well.

Sticking with Paleo, not so much... I am a weak, weak individual it seems. Eff.

I ate cake (a lot...especially as an after-drinking food). Three birthdays, and I used the excuse of "I'm on vacation, why not?" too often to justify my own failings. I didn't need to eat the cake. No one forced me. I just fucked up, plain and simple.

I ate candy a few times as well. Ugh.

I felt like crap a whole lot, physically and mentally.

But I'm back now, and it's back on the wagon. I'm starting the clock all over again. Back to day 1, once again.

Day 29 - Almost a Month

Hot, hot day today.

"Sweet" eggs and bacon with a coffee and an apple for breakfast.

Leftover pork chop with carrots and cherries for lunch.
Another half pork chop for an afternoon snack, with some strawberries.

8 chicken wings for an early dinner, with a paleo macaroon. And then another half pork chop for dinner with some roasted BBQ veggies and fresh green beans.

Off to Newfoundland tomorrow, so I'll do my best to post as frequently as possible.

Days 27 and 28 - Busy Busy Busy

Apologies or the lack of a post yesterday. I've been crazy busy getting ready to head to Newfoundland on Thursday. That, and the heat may have friend my brain!

Completely clean eating over yesterday and today.
Eggs and bacon with coffee for breakfast. Lunch was tuna today and I can't remember for yesterday (see above-mentioned heat-fried brain). Veggies and fruit on the aide with seeds to get my fats in.

Dinner was pulled pork yesterday. Today was nothing. Booo. Too busy running around.
I bbq'd up some pork chops and asparagus for tomorrow though, so I will promise to gorge myself on that!

Almost a month in and I'm feeling amazing. No desire to eat outside of Paleo foods. I'm back in the groove it seems!

Days 25 and 26 - Weekend of deliciousness!

Great delicious food all weekend.

Tried a blueberry and egg omelette for breakfast on saturday with bacon. Amazing!

No real lunch, but steak, mushrooms and grilled veggies for dinner. More amazing!

Sunday saw a breakfast omelette at Cora's. Coffee on the side. More brunch really.

Dinner was a half rack of ribs and a 1/4 chicken from Swiss chalet with a spinach salad.

Man I love the food I eat!

Day 24 - Here comes the weekend!

Great day today. Other than a REALLY crappy lunch, my food was great. It was only crappy because I didn't have any meat other than a handful of jerky.
No meat makes Rich angry. Rich like meat.

Bacon and sweet potato mash for brekkie. Coffee as usual.

Lots of veggies and a bit of fruit with the aforementioned jerky for lunch.

Baked, non breaded, plain chicken wings after work, with a Larabar.

2 sausages and some bacon and broccoli salad for dinner.

I love Paleo!

Day 23 - Staying Strong

Bacon and leftover sweet potatoes for breakfast, along with a black coffee.

For lunch, had two leftover steak skewers with extra steak. Carrots and raspberries to top it all off.

A bit of trail mix and a larabar again before soccer.

And finally a lamb chop, a garden salad with balsamic and evoo dressing with a banana on the side.

I also keep forgetting to mention that I'm drinking in the range of 6-7 liters of water each day as well. Mmm hydration.

That's all for now. The paleo wagon continues tomorrow!

Day 22 - More BBQ Adventures

Delicious bacon and eggs this morning (nitrate free and all natural ingredient bacon from Schneider's. Looks like they just released it). Coffee and a banana on the side, not necessarily in that order.

Leftover steak for lunch along with some carrots, cucumber, blueberries and seeds.

An apple and beef jerky for an afternoon snack and a larabar and some trail mix (dried fruit and nuts) before soccer.

Steak skewers for dinner with leftover sweet potato and bacon mash from yesterday.

Feeling great today. All around positive mood and my energy levels are slowly climbing.

Onward and upward! Mmm bacon.

Day 21 - Mmm BBQ

Woke up super tired today. Had to have a quick Pre-work nap to tide myself over.

1/4 chicken dark, an apple and a macaroon for breakfast with the usual black coffee.

Chicken breast with skin, carrots, an apple, a pear and some seeds for lunch.

Not sure hungry today in the afternoon, for a change.

T-bone steak and bacon-infused mashed sweet potatoes for dinner. Sooooo good!

Still tired all day but I think it's mostly because I've been getting to sleep later than normal. We'll see if that improves. I'm sure it will.

Day 20 - Ennneerrrgggyyy!

Woke up feeling great this morning. Earlier than usual and I was full of energy.
Eggs with salsa, a plum, an apple and a macaroon for breakfast/snack around 10am. The usual black coffee with brekkie as well.

Salmon fillet for lunch with carrots and some papaya. Pepitas and sunflower seeds on the side. Damn nut-free camp forcing me to eat seeds.

I was starving this afternoon so I grabbed some pulled pork before soccer. Twas delicious. Especially with a Larabar on the side!

1/4 chicken (dark) for dinner, with an apple.

Oh and lots of water on this hot, hot day!

1/5 into my 100 days. I'm feeling fantastic. I can't wait to keep it going!

Days 17, 18, 19 - Wedding Weekend

Busy, busy weened over these last few days. My brother got married yesterday, so I apologize for not having the time to be posting regularly.

Food has been great over the last few days. Lots of meat and veggies with a bunch of fruit on the side. I get lots of compliments on how fresh my food always is. I like hearing that. I like eating it even more!

And now the confession:
I broke the diet yesterday during the wedding meal. The meal was excellent and wonderful, and paleo as far as I know (ie. No gluten, dairy, sugar). Had a small piece of cake for dessert (and felt like shit this morning...gluten and I don't get along well). Otherwise, just some alcohol...okay, a whole bunch of it.

I knew the wedding day would bring some hiccups. I'll take it as a speedbump and move right along.

Back to the daily posts tomorrow.

Days 15 & 16 - Catching Up

Slacked off from posting yesterday. Really busy with getting ready for my brother's wedding tomorrow. The good news, though, is that I've stayed completely strict since unlucky day 13.

Lots of meat and veggies. Supplementing with a lot of fruit right now as I chug through the first week of camp. I'm constantly hungry when I'm out there.

Breakfast over the past couple days has been eggs and smoothies with bacon on the side. Black coffee as well, as per usual.

Lunch has been meat (homemade paleo "sweet and sour" meatballs today, courtesy of my lovely wife!). Carrots and cucumbers as a side with grapes, a nectarine, a pear and some plantain chips.
Left my seeds at home today so I'm light on the fats today. Gotta munch on some nuts when I get home!

Day 14 - Back on the Wagon

New start today.
Starting off on the right foot again. 5 strips of bacon and a smoothie this morning (banana, 5 strawberries, 1 1/2 cups almond milk, coconut oil and protein powder). And the usual black coffee.

Fish for lunch with lots of fruit and veggies. Sunflower seeds and pepitas on the side.

Buffalo steak with grilled peppers and asparagus on the side.

Still feel like complete shit from yesterday, but it will pass. Fully strict now. No more of the shut like yesterday.

Day 13 - Effed up.

I feel awful.
I was doing so well.
I ate great today but got into the uber-hungry state that makes me crave things.
Stopped and grabbed some chicken wings and a very small tub of ju jubes. Fuck. they don't even taste good. I just grabbed them because it was something quick and easy while I was on the go.
I have the willpower of Charlie Sheen standing in front of a mountain of coke.
No more fuck ups.
I can't believe I did this. I need a punishment for eating like this. Donation to charity perhaps?

Days 10, 11, 12 - Georgian Bay Paleo

Kept it strong over the weekend.
Lots of fruit and veggies. Delicious eggs and bacon for breakfast each day.
Turned down ice cream and munched on jerky instead!

Indulged in a few Nor Cal Margaritas though... Made them with gin. No tequila to e found.

And found a great organic meats place on the way home!
What a great weekend!

Day 9/100 - Going Strong

Woke up late this morning, so had a quick breakfast of a whole bunch of leftover pulled pork and an orange. Black coffee on the side again.

Had a macaroon for a snack (Jennie's Macaroons from macaroonking.com - highly recommended!). Hungry right now but I'm sitting in the library and they frown on munching away in there...especially during staff meetings!

Shrimp, smoked salmon, oysters and Caesar salad for lunch.

Quick dinner of pulled pork and now it's off to the boat for the weekend!

Day 8/100 - Training

It occurred to me today that I need to get back to training. Got me some new equipment today and I'm excited to put it into practice.

Breakfast was "sweet" eggs. Needed something quick so I cooked them up. Banana on the side along with my usual coffee.

Ribs for lunch along with 1/3 of a cucumber, 3 carrots and a bunch of grapes (no pun intended...really).

Had a second coffee after lunch.

Pulled pork in Boston lettuce wraps for dinner, with a banana on the side.

Physically, I'm feeling "off" today. Not sure why, but I feel like I binged on gluten yesterday. I feel sluggish and bloated. Mentally, though, I'm continuing to feel sharper/more clear with each day that goes by. My mood is awesome too. Amazing what a change diet can make! But shhh...don't tell the haters. Mind you, they're typically too busy espousing (great word!) the "benefits" of grains to notice. Sigh...one day they'll learn, I can only hope.

Day 7/100 - One Week In

Super super tired this morning. Not sure why. Got 6.5 hours of sleep last night...more than I usually get.
I feel an epic nap coming on tonight after work!

Eggs with spinach and peameal bacon for breakfast. Banana and a black coffee on the side. I'm sure there will be more coffee in the books today.

God, Tim Horton's coffee is awful...

Salad with two chicken breasts for lunch along with some carrots. Blueberries and a nectarine on the way home.

Duck breast with a sweet potato and apple chutney-ish side. Ate at Borealis in Guelph for the bday dinner. I like duck more and more each time I eat it.

Paleo pineapple upside-down cake for dessert, made by yours truly.

Day 6/100 - Sllleeeeeeppp

6.5 hours sleep last night. Nowhere near what I've been getting over the weekend but I still woke up refreshed. It's a good feeling.

"Sweet" eggs again for breakfast along with a smoothie (banana, strawberries, almond milk, coconut oil, protein powder) and an orange.
And a black coffee of course. Too bad I ran out of my delicious stuff, so I had to stop at Tim Horton's for the liquid deliciousness this morning...

Leftover pineapple chicken for lunch with 3 carrots, 1/3 of a cucumber. And a bunch of strawberries and blueberries to finish it all off.
I get a lot of comment from people about how healthy I eat. Gotta keep it going so I can truly look the part.

After soccer, had a half rack of ribs and some mixed veggies for dinner.

Oh, and had some pulled pork and grapes before soccer.

Tired after playing tonight and ready for bed. Time to hit the sack!

Day 5/100 - "Sweet" Dreams

I dreamt last night that I wad eating candy. I woke up quite pissed off with myself, then I realised it was a dream. Man this is weird. First time tat has happened to me!

Another epic sleep last night. A full 11 hours this time. Feels great.

Breakfast was a "sweet" eggs recipe I found. 3 eggs, cinnamon, maple syrup, raisins and dried cranberries. With 3 strips of bacon on the side. Had some of the leftover Paleo apple crisp from last night.

Snacked on some dried fruit and nuts throughout the afternoon.

Dinner was Paleo pineapple chicken with bacon-wrapped asparagus. Probably one of the best meals I've had in a while!

5 days in and I feel great. Looking forward to keeping strong. NFUs

Day 4/100 - Paleo Gourmet!

Feeling FANTASTIC today! I think I'm officially over the sugar withdrawal. I hope so anyway...

Great meals today.

Quick bacon and eggs for brekkie. Leftover pork chops and sweet potato fries for lunch.

Out shopping and grabbed a booster juice. Got it dairy-free so it was just fruit. Twas delicious!

Made delicious stuffed peppers for dinner and Paleo apple crisp for dessert. Soooo good!

Feeling clear, feeling great. Can't wait to keep it going!

Day 3/100 - Clarity

Third day today. Incredibly I'm already feeling mentally clearer.
Had the day off so I haven't had anything to eat (it's noon as I start to write today's post).

Caught up on sleep last night. Got a solid 11 hours and I needed it. I was out like a light.

Ate completely clean again today. I'm posting this on day 4 so I forget the exact foods.
Omelette for lunch (the usual).
Pork chops, sweet potato fries for dinner.

Another day down, and feeling good!

Day 2/100 - Instant Change

Firstly I just want to say how much better I feel already. My body is readjusting to a proper diet and I feel clearer already.

Breakfast today:
3 eggs, 3 pieces of peameal bacon, cup of spinach
Smoothie with almond milk, banana, strawberries, coconut oil and a small scoop of protein powder.
Oh, and a black coffee of course!

Quick lunch today. A whole whack of beef jerky and some broccoli. Grapes and raspberries later.

Hungry as eff after work. Ate about a 1/2 pound of pulled pork and an apple.
Still going trough sugar withdrawal. Pretty badly today at that. But it'll pass and it's more than worth it.

Half a rack of ribs for dinner. Wasn't super hungry but needed something.

Forgot to post this yesterday so here it is today

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Day 1/100

Very tired this morning. Lack of sleep as usual. Just have to grin and bear it until Friday, then I'll be able to sleep more each night.

Eggs, peameal bacon, spinach, onion and garlic in am omelette for breakfast. Apple and a black coffee on the side.

1/4 chicken dark, cucumber, grapes and raspberries for lunch. Ate a Larabar too. So delicious.

So far I've ate nothing out of the ordinary. This is what I typically eat each day. It's the post-work drive home where I eat the crap. I will avoid it today. NFUs.

I was sorely tempted to buy candy on the way home. I held out tho. Ate an apple, some
Beef jerky and pistachios.

Dinner was a half a chicken breast and some
Salad. Oh, and a ton of water. Other than the sugar withdrawal, I'm feeling really good.
Looks like day 1 us in the bag.

100 Days of Paleo

Why bother with this?

I've felt like sh*t for the last 4 months. I haven't had the time to train, I've been eating like absolute sh*t, and sleeping...well, I nap a lot, to make up for the lack of sleep I get every night.

This is my turning point. I want Rich 2.0 back - the person I was physically last summer. And I want to go beyond that.

There was a time that I was an example for some people to follow. I will even stretch so much as to say that I was an inspiration for some people. It's time to be that person again.

I'm going to come out and admit something, to get the ball rolling: I am addicted to sweets. Not addicted as in a "sweet tooth", but addicted like a meth head needs a fix and will sometimes do anything for it. It's pathetic, and it scares me.
Before I went strict Paleo the first time in January 2010, I was worried that I was on the path to Type-2 Diabetes. If I keep eating the way I do now, I'm sure I'll be there. So it is massively time for a change.
No more sweets. No more candy. I've ate it almost every day, in one form or another. I sometimes convince myself it's okay, and it's "just a bit"...it's a fully unhealthy behaviour, physically and psychologically.
It stops here.

Day 1 is tomorrow. Day one of the first 100 days of the rest of my life. It's time to turn this ship around. NFUs.
